I loved this book August 22, 2010 ads68 The most enjoyable poker book i have read so far.
One feels such an affinity with victoria purely because she is so open and honest , nothing is over-glamourised or taboo.
For Poker Fans. August 3, 2010 Mr. Peter Haines (Leicestershire UK) In have heard people say they could not put a book down. This book falls into this category, in my opinion. Without spoiling the format, following Victoria through her game in the final of the EPT is brilliant. Lots of name dropping, some of which are unheard of. The story belts along, unlike poker. Heartily recommended.
Behind The Scenes July 7, 2010 Meharijack This is a look behind the scenes of the shady world of poker. It is written in a witty and lively style which makes it both easy to read and difficult to put down. This is not a dry "how to do it" book but one in which new insights are given on some of the better and lesser known characters of this twilight world and the way in which it works. This all makes for a fascinating read and goes from hilarity to some sadness. I would have given it five stars if some areas had been covered in slightly more depth and explanation but there may well be a reason for this or do we feel a sequel coming on?
Either way I will dust off my cards and wait with bated breath.
For Richer, For Poorer by Victoria Coren June 28, 2010 Imostlywaffle (Cambridge, England) Came across this book by chance and thought I would give it go, going by the reviews on the cover. Despite not knowing anything about poker or gambling, the story-line has enthralled me and opened up this murky world which has recently been gaining in popularity. Still don't know much about poker and certainly wouldn't consider this a guide, but this autobiography has touched all my nerves not just one. Beautifully written with disarming honesty and genuine candour, I have returned to reread several passages immediately simply because the content is so personal and touching. I hadn't read any of her work before but judging by this standard I shall be seeking it out.
Great - even for a non-poker fan June 14, 2010 Hayles (England) I was interested in this book because a friend who is a poker player recommended it and I was intriqued by the Cohen name (having always loved Victoria's father, Alan). I don't play poker and the fact that I still enjoyed this book, despite that lack of knowledge, shows how well written it is. At the end of each chapter there is a very technical bit describing the million dollar game Cohen won but you can skim this and not miss too much. The rest of the book is a funny, sensitive and descriptive glimpse into a murky but glamourous world.
